Greenwich High girls lacrosse team places six athletes on All-FCIAC Team; Emma Abbazia a First Team selection

Greenwich High School’s girls lacrosse team is certainly well represented on the All-FCIAC Team.

Six Greenwich athletes received All-FCIAC accolades following a season in which the team advanced to the FCIAC Tournament semifinals and the semifinal-round of the CIAC Class LL Tournament.

Greenwich finished the season with a record of 13-8, including a win in the quarterfinal-round of the FCIAC Tournament and two victories in the CIAC Class LL Tournament.

Emma Abbazia, who produced another sensational season for the Cardinals, with this spring being her senior season, earned All-FCIAC First Team honors. Abbazia who graduated from Greenwich High School tonight, will take her lacrosse skills to University of Maryland’s Division I program.

Abbazia, who was selected as a member of the All-FCIAC First Team as a midfielder, eclipsed the 200-career goal milestone this season for the Cardinals. She consistently powered Greenwich’s offensive with clutch goals throughout this past season and her entire career.

Sophomores Leighton Collier and Giselle DiPietro and junior Aubrey Roth each received All-FCIAC Second Team honors for the Cardinals. Roth helped ignite Greenwich’s offense, contributing to the team with plenty of goals and assists.

DiPietro also sparked Greenwich at the attack position, tallying numerous times, while Collier provided a steady presence as a midfielder throughout the season, while also helping the Cardinals with draw controls.

Senior goalie Katie Janis received All-FCIAC Honorable Mention recognition. Janis recorded 119 saves for the seasons in helping lead Greenwich to another highly successful season.

Junior Flynn Tauber helped solidify the midfield position for Greenwich with standout play throughout the season. Coached by Tara Clough, the Cardinals defeated Ridgefield in the FCIAC Tournament quarterfinals, before losing to New Canaan in the semifinals. In the Class LL state tourney, GHS topped Stamford and Ridgefield in the first two rounds, then was edged by Darien, 7-6, in the semifinals.
