
Sweeping the three doubles matches, while splitting the four singles matchups, the Greenwich High School girls tennis team topped host Fairfield Warde, 5-2, in an FCIAC contest held on Monday.
In singles action, Ivanna Diez de Bonilla and Kyra Dybas were victorious for the Cardinals. Diez de Bonilla beat Warde junior Jessica Broder, 6-1, 6-3 at first singles. At second singles, Dybas was a 6-0, 6-0 winner. Ella Smith of Warde, a junior, registered a 6-2, 7-5 win at third singles against Greenwich freshman Malena Schraa. In the No. 4 singles match, Sam Mieczkowski of the Mustangs got past Cardinals junior Courteney Sheets, 6-3, 6-3.
In doubles action, senior Abby Shropshire and sophomore Julia Tamis of Greenwich won their match against Ellie Mannello and Karla Nahme, 6-1, 6-1. The No. 2 doubles match saw senior Kira Popa and freshman Emily Weinstein of the Cardinals notch a 6-3, 6-0 triumph against junior Sarah Houghton and sophomore Gwen Kardos.
In the No. 3 doubles matchup, sophomores Mei McGuiness and Valentina Rivano won, 6-0, 6-1. The Cardinals are back in action Tuesday against visiting Trumbull at 4:30 p.m.
