Greenwich High School’s girls lacrosse team produced a stellar 2023 season, posting a 12-6 record, while advancing to the semifinals of both the Class L and FCIAC tournaments and leading the squad’s potent offense was dynamic All-American midfielder Emma Abbazia.

Abbazia, who recently concluded her junior season with the Cardinals, earned USA Lacrosse All-American honors after having a sensational 2023 season. Greenwich’s leading scorer, Abbazia recorded a team-high 70 goals this spring and tallied 18 assists. An all-around player, she registered 89 draw controls, gathered 49 ground balls and caused 50 turnovers. Indeed, it’s easy to see why Abbazia is a USA Lacrosse All-American Connecticut selection.

“Emma is a gifted athlete with incredible speed, agility, endurance, IQ, drive and determination that has allowed her to single-handedly lead the charge, resulting in shifts in game momentum this spring,” Greenwich varsity coach Tara Clough said. “She anticipates and dominates on 50/50 possessions.”

A rising senior, Abbazia has 170 goals, 52 assists, 237 draw controls and 109 ground balls for her standout career so far for the Cardinals.

Abbazia scored six goals to help pace Greenwich to a 13-12 comeback win against Ridgefield in the FCIAC Tournament quarterfinals at Cardinal Stadium last month. She also notched five goals in Greenwich’s victory over Staples in the opening round of the 2023 CIAC Class L Tournament.
