
David Pastore, a Greenwich native representing Greenwich’s Fairview Country Club, has been on top of his golf game in recent tournaments, placing second and first, respectively, at the Connecticut and Massachusetts Open tournaments.
The 89th CSGA Connecticut Open Championship, held at Shuttle Meadow Country Club, saw Pastore post an impressive second-place finish with a three-round score of 13-under-par 200.
Brett Stegmaier representing New Haven Country Club won the Connecticut Open Championship title, shooting a 15-under-par 198 over three rounds. Jason Thresher of West Suffield, Conn., shot a 12-under 201, while Cody Paladino (Hartford Golf Club), Casey Pyne (The Stanwich Club) and Peter Ballo (Connecticut Golf Club) each finished in a fourth-place tie with a score of 10-under-par 203.
Ballo, a Stamford native, entered the tournament as the two-time defending Connecticut Open Champion. Pastore and Ballo concluded the second round of the tournament in a first-place tie at 10-under-par.
A 2010 Greenwich High School graduate, who played golf at the University of Virginia, the 31-year-old Pastore, who has played on the professionally since 2014, shot a 5-under 61 in the first round of the Connecticut Open and also carded a 66 in the second round. In the third round, Pastore registered a round of 68. His final round of 68 featured four birdies. He sank birdie putts on the par-5 third hole, the par-3 sixth hole, No. 7 (par-5) and No. 18 (par-5).
Pastore’s second round was highlighted by an eagle on the Par-5 seventh hole. Stegmaier shot a 2-under 69 in the first round, followed by a 6-under 65 in the second round and a sizzling 7-under 64 on his way to winning the Connecticut Open title. Pyne, representing The Stanwich Club in Greenwich, carded a 67 in the first two rounds, then shot a 69 in the third round for his score of 203.
Ballo finished with a 65 in the opening round, followed by a 67 in the second round, then shot a 71 on the final day on July 26. Andrew Gruss of Greenwich Country Club placed 12th (70-68-70, 5-under 208) and Ben Carpenter, a Brunswick School graduate, who plays out of Country Club of Darien, was 14th (69-70-70, 4-under, 209).
Mike Ballo Jr. of Stamford finished the tournament at 3-under 210, as did Stanwich Club’s Austin Ball. James Giampolo (Fairview Country Club) shot a 1-under-par 212.

At the Massachusetts Open Championship at TPC Boston, Pastore won the three-day, three-round event with a score of 12-under-par 204. He shot a 4-under-par 68 in the first round, carded a 6-under 66 in the second round and in the final round on June 14, Pastore posted a 2-under 70.
The victory gave Pastore the Clarence G. Cochrane Memorial Trophy and the $15,000 top prize. Jason Thresher of West Suffield Connecticut was the runner-up at the Massachusetts Open, finishing the tournament at 10-under 206. Nicholas Pandelena of Atkinson New Hampshire was third (9-under 207), Mike Van Sickle from Wexford, Pa., took fourth at 8-under 208 and Ricky Stimets (Worcester Country Club) and Brad Adamonis (Ponte Vedra, Fla.) tied for fifth place at 7-under 209.
The Massachusetts Open included more than 100 competitors, 53 of which made the cut. Some of the titles in Pastore’s professional career include the Niagara Championship on the PGA Tour Canada and the New Hampshire Open.
