Emma Gustafsson and CJ Weigl were senior captains of a Greenwich High School girls water polo team that cruised to a perfect record of 10-0 this past spring.
The dynamic duo led the Cardinals offensively, with Gustafsson supplying the goals and in goal, with Weigl making numerous saves. Their standout performances throughout Greenwich’s 2023 season helped spark the squad to victory against each opponent and garnered the attention of the National Interscholastic Swim Coaches Association.
The NISCA recently announced its Girls High School All-America Teams for the 2022-2023 scholastic season and Weigl and Gustafsson represented Greenwich, earning All-America Water Polo accolades.
Gustafsson, an offensive player who converted a high percentage of her shots throughout the season and her Cardinals career, received NISCA Girls Water Polo Second Team All-America honors for the 2023 season.

Weigl, who helped make Greenwich become a tough team to generate goals against, earned NISCA Third Team All-America accolades for her 2023 campaign.
Gustafsson, a 2023 Greenwich High graduate, was the Cardinals’ leading goal scorer and overall scorer for the season, tallying a number of goals each game for Greenwich.
Weigl, who also graduated from GHS this past June, was rock solid in goal throughout the season for the Cardinals. Both players provided exceptional leadership as Greenwich’s captains and are ready to continue their respective water polo careers at the collegiate level.
Gustafsson will play Division I water polo at the University of Michigan. Weigl will compete on Princeton University’s Division I water polo team. Congratulations and good luck to Greenwich’s All-America water polo players.
