Greenwich High School volleyball team opens season with four straight wins

It may be early in the season, but the Greenwich High School volleyball team seems to be in midseason form.

The Cardinals have begun their 2023 campaign with four consecutive victories, their latest triumph coming against visiting New Canaan on Thursday.

Greenwich earned a 3-0 win against New Canaan, winning the match by game scores of 25-11, 25-13, 25-10. Senior Kassidy Bonney recorded eight kills, six digs, four aces and two blocks, while senior Hayley Dionis had 15 digs to pace the Cardinals (4-0).

Junior Alina Sarkissian had five kills and two blocks and Sarah Bermann posted 25 assists to go along with seven digs and seven aces for the Cardinals versus the Rams. Senior Skyler Wilson (eight assists) and junior Joy Houdre (11 digs, seven kills) also paced Greenwich’s winning effort.

In a 3-0 road win against Masuk on Tuesday, the Cardinals took the match by set scores of 25-21, 25-9, 25-20. Bonney tallied 11 kills, five digs and two blocks, Dionis had 13 digs and Bermann totaled 24 kills, seven digs and two blocks for the victors.

On Monday, Greenwich hosted Daniel Hand and was victorious, 3-0 (25-7, 25-16, 25-14). Bonney recorded seven kills, seven digs and two blocks, Sarkissian had seven kills, four aces and one block and Dionis registered 10 digs.

Bermann helped lead the offense with 13 assists, as did senior Grace Darnow (12 assists). Against host Lauralton Hall last Saturday, Greenwich cruised to a 3-0 season-opening victory (25-18, 25-9, 25-12). Houdre had six aces, four kills and eight digs, while Sarkissian had four aces, nine kills and one block in the win. Dionis added 12 digs, Bermann tallied 24 assists and posted 10 aces.

Up next for Greenwich is a home match against FCIAC foe Trumbull on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.
