Greenwich Academy’s field hockey team improved its record to 2-0 to start the season, earning its second straight 5-0 victory.
GA, which began its 2023 season with a 5-0 win over Greenwich Country Day School, won by the same score against Choate Rosemary Hall on Wednesday in Wallingford in an NEPSAC game.
Junior Lavinia Cartellieri recorded a hat trick to pace the Gators to their 5-0 road triumph over Choate Rosemary Hall. With 6:16 remaining in the first period, Cartellieri scored off an assist from senior Gigi Caldero, giving Greenwich Academy a 1-0 lead.
At the 3:49 mark of the second period, Cartellieri tipped in a shot from eighth-grader Cordelia Blanc, putting GA on top, 2-0. Senior co-captain Caroline Busler scored off a pass from sophomore Chloe Cleaves, giving Greenwich Academy a 4-0 advantage with 11:41 left in the third quarter. GA’s third goal came when Cartellieri converted a penalty stroke with 2:23 to go in the second period.
“Choate had a quick counter attack and our defense had to make some big plays,” said Greenwich Academy coach Jamie Brower, who noted that junior goalie Persia Shipman made seven saves for the team. “Our passing game helped us possess the ball well.”
In the third period, junior Lindsay Gaynor tallied off a tip-in on a shot by Cartellieri, capping the Gators’ scoring.
