
Brunswick School’s cross country team certainly made its mark in its first FAA meet of the 2023 season.
The Bruins registered a record of 6-1 at the FAA meet, which was held at Sherwood Island State Park in Westport, Connecticut, on Wednesday. Coached by Steve Polikoff, the Bruins defeated Greenwich Country Day School, 24-31, Rye Country Day School, 27-30, Masters School, 27-28, Greens Farms Academy, 16-39, St. Luke’s School, 18-37 and King School, 15-50. Brunswick’s lone loss of the day came against Hopkins School, 26-33.
Pacing the Bruins was speedy sophomore Nathan Lee. Lee won the race in a time of 16:54. Edward Hojla, a freshman, produced a second-place finish for Brunswick.

Hojla was the runner-up with a time of 17:35.30. Lucas Llovera, a Hopkins School junior, was third in 17:39.10, followed by Preston Parker, also of Hopkins (17:40).
Zafran Kocyba of Greenwich Country Day School, a sophomore, had an eighth-place finish (17:59.30).

Senior Patrick Duncan posted a 12th-place finish for Brunswick, clocking in at 18:27.30. Bruins teammate Armaan Lakhani, a freshman, was 23rd (19:25.10) and Alex Mastellone, a sophomore, was 48th for Brunswick (21:29.30).
Greenwich Country Day sophomore Jeffrey Piper finished 13th (18:28.60) in the FAA race, which included 115 competitors.

“Despite toeing the line with only the minimum of five healthy runners for the first league contest, Brunswick cross country opening the season with a promising result,” Polikoff said.
Brunswick is competing in the Canterbury Invitational today, then will host the second FAA meet of the season on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m.
