
In a possible preview of the FAA Tournament final, Sacred Heart Greenwich host rival King in a significant, early-season volleyball match on Wednesday before a jam-packed crowd.
King, which has won the FAA Tournament championship several seasons in a row and beat the Tigers for the title in 2022, has been the gold standard in the league for numerous years, but it was Sacred Heart’s time to shine on Wednesday.
Sacred Heart earned its biggest win of the early season, posting an impressive 3-1 victory over visiting King. The Tigers won the match by set scores of 25-18, 23-25, 26-24, 25-22.

Junior Grace Gapen recorded 17 kills, 11 digs, two assists and one ace to help pace Sacred Heart to the win. Senior co-captain Kaitlin Robinson registered six kills, three aces and five blocks, while senior co-captain Emilia Bernal tallied 21 digs, three assists, one kill and one ace for the Tigers, who improved their record to 5-2.
Evangelyn Forte had 27 assists, 15 digs, three kills and three aces Tigers teammate Cait Haggerty added six blocks and two kills.
Also pacing SHG were Jane Murphy (three blocks), Emerson Eckert (four kills, two aces, nine digs, one assist), Ana Pizzibono (two kills, one ace) and Brianna Timlin (one ace, three digs).
Sacred Heart will be back in action tomorrow against visiting NEPSAC foe Taft School at 2:45 p.m.
