
Excelling from the start, Sacred Heart Greenwich’s varsity field hockey team topped Hopkins School, 7-1, in an FAA matchup held on Tuesday in New Haven.
Senior tri-captain Emma Marvin scored two goals and Charly Nemec, also a senior tri-captain, had one goal and one assist to pace the Tigers to their third straight win. Sacred Heart raised its record to 5-1 with the road victory.
Whitney Rousseau began the scoring for the Tigers, tallying with 13:09 remaining in the first quarter. Payton Sfreddo, a senior tri-captain, gave SHG a 2-0 lead, scoring off an assist from Nemec with 6:37 to go in the opening quarter. Junior Ainsley Clough made it 3-0, scoring off an assist from Lindsay Schwind at the 2:01 mark of the first quarter.
Nemec started off the second quarter with a goal off a Clough assist 1:21 into the quarter. Marvin tallied off a Nemec pass at the 9:55 mark of the second quarter, then Kingsley Ely scored 37 seconds later, giving SHG a commanding 6-0 advantage.
Hopkins’ goal came with 7:29 remaining in the fourth quarter. Marvin sealed Sacred Heart’s scoring, tallying with 6:49 left to play.
“We started the game really well today and we converted on every opportunity that we had,” SHG coach Alex Gheorghe said. “Our goal is to stay focused and disciplined for the upcoming games.”
