Greenwich Academy’s Maddy Lee finishes first in FAA cross country race; Ava Lillis of Sacred Heart places second; Giselle Putka of Greenwich Country Day third; GA finishes second in team standings

Maddy Lee, a Greenwich Academy senior, earned top honors at the second FAA cross country meet of the season on Wednesday, showing her speed in summer like weather.

Lee won the race held at Brunswick School’s course with a time of 19:50. Ava Lillis of Sacred Heart Greenwich, a senior, finished second in the race with a time of 21:26. Eighth-grader Giselle Putka of Greenwich Country Day School placed third, clocking in at 21:30.

Sacred Heart Greenwich junior Charlotte Bacigalupo had a sixth-place finish in 21:51, while Tigers teammate Maggie Finn was 10th in 22:39. Senior Grace Sullivan of Greenwich Academy was 12th (22:56) and Greenwich Country Day School freshman Annie Noble was 15th (23:27).

Isabel Pombo (24:02), Casey Duval (24:11), Aya Ragab (24:37) and Nadia Kowalski (24:52) were 16th, 17th, 19th and 22nd, respectively, for Greenwich Academy.

Kate McIntyre placed 26th for the Gators (25:05). Rima Ferrer of GCDS was 27th (25:09), while Chloe Coviello (25:34) and Emilia Oliva (26:06) were 29th and 31st, respectively for Sacred Heart.

In the team results, Greenwich Academy defeated Sacred Heart, Rye Country Day School, School of the Holy Child, Greenwich Country Day School, St. Luke’s School, Masters School, King and Greens Farms Academy – going 8-1 on the warm day.

Sacred Heart Greenwich was 7-2 for the meet, posting victories against Rye Country Day School, Holy Child, Greenwich Country Day, St. Luke’s, Masters, King and Greens Farms.

“Tough conditions with the heat, but the GA squad ran well,” GA coach Jane Finch said.
