Sacred Heart Greenwich defeats Greenwich Country Day School in FAA field hockey action, improves to 6-1

Senior captains Charly Nemec and Emma Marvin helped lead the Sacred Heart Greenwich field hockey team to its sixth victory of the season, recently.

Nemec recorded a hat trick, while Marvin had one goal and one assist for Sacred Heart in its 7-0 victory at home against neighborhood FAA foe Greenwich Country Day School.

Whitney Rousseau opened the scoring for SHG, tallying with 11:04 remaining in the first quarter. Senior captain Payton Sfreddo assisted on Rousseau’s goal.

Marvin’s goal at the 1:51 mark of the first quarter gave the Tigers a 2-0 lead. In the second quarter, Nemec’s goal with 11:08 to go made it 3-0. Elle Corcoran added a goal off an assist from Marvin at the 8:55 mark, giving Sacred Heart a 4-0 advantage on GCDS at halftime.

Nemec scored twice in the third quarter, while Xan Collins added a goal to cap Sacred Heart’s scoring. Liv Starr made three saves in goal for Greenwich Country Day School. Sacred Heart held a 4-2 advantage in penalty corners on GCDS. Sacred Heart’s record in the FAA is 5-1.

“We were excited to play home again and we needed this win to keep building up our momentum through the season,” SHG coach Alex Gheorghe said. “The team looked good and we converted at the right times. GCDS played very hard against us and we would like to congratulate them for the effort that they put in.”
