
The season of perfection continued for the Greenwich High School girls swimming/diving team.
The Cardinals improved their record to 8-0 with a well-earned 97-81 victory over FCIAC rival Darien on Wednesday at the Darien YMCA. Greenwich began the meet by winning the 200-yard medley relay race in a time of 1:52.40.
Senior Payton Foster won the 200-yard freestyle for the Cardinals with a time of 1:55.94. Teammate Ellison Charette finished second in 1:59.27 and Ilse Fedoronko of Darien was third (2:01.60).
In the 200-yard individual medley, Greenwich senior Sydney Jee posted a first-place finish, clocking in at 2:14.47. Darien’s Erin Luecke was the runner-up (2:18.61) and Greenwich’s Julia Kozma took third in 2:20.85.
Sofia Wang gave Greenwich a winning effort in the 50-yard freestyle (25.08 seconds), while Liisa Jalakas of Darien finished second (25.73). Sena Bozkurt had a third-place finish in the 50 freestyle (25.75), then won the 100 butterfly, registering a time of 58.90. Jasmina Ujkaj of Darien placed second in the butterfly (1:01.21) and Jee took third for the Cards (1:03.07).
Foster earned top honors in the 100-yard freestyle (52.95), while Wang finished in second place (53.10). Charette took third in the 100 freestyle (56.21). In the 500 freestyle, Melissa Geiger touched the wall first for the Cardinals in 5:25.21. Darien’s Caroline Ward was second in 5:32.32. Greenwich’s Wesley Wales finished third in the 500 freestyle. Greenwich had a first-place finish in the 200 freestyle relay (1:43.69) and Kozma registered a winning time of 1:03.20 in the 100 backstroke.
Michelle Weissler of GHS was the 100 breaststroke winner (1:13.26) and teammates Isabel Guzman (1:13.93) and Kensington Warden (1:14.23) were second and third, respectively, for the Cardinals. The meet concluded with Greenwich winning the 400 freestyle (3:49.99).
The Cardinals visit Staples on Wednesday.
