Greenwich High School’s girls volleyball team earned a familiar result in its match against FCIAC opponent Danbury on Friday.
The Cardinals swept the Hatters, 3-0, marking their 12th win of the season. In all of Greenwich’s 12 wins, they have won by a 3-0 score, exhibiting the dominance and efficiency this fall.
Now Greenwich, which sports a sparkling record of 12-2 overall and 7-2 in the FCIAC, hosts undefeated Darien Monday in a conference showdown.

On Friday, the Cardinals downed visiting Danbury by set scores of 25-6, 25-15, 25-9. Setter Sarah Bernann registered 22 assists, two aces, two digs and one block to help pace the Cardinals.
Indeed, the Cardinals displayed stellar chemistry and communication throughout their latest victory.
“In all of our practices, we make sure that we have a well-developed connection with each one of our hitters,” Bernann said. “Half of our practice is working with 1-on-1 – setter to middle or outside to right side – and making sure that we are calling things.”

Junior Alina Sarkissian posted 12 kills, five digs, two blocks and two aces for the Cardinals, who host Darien Monday at 4 p.m.
“What pleases me most is our energy,” said junior Joy Houdre, who also turned in a strong performance for GHS against Danbury. “We can mess up, but the way we are resilient – we did not let lost points get us down. We always have high energy and we are really bonded.”
Greenwich’s two losses are to St. Joseph on the road and against Trumbull at home. They came back in impressive fashion in both losses, winning their next matchup.

Talia Muir had three aces, five kills, one dig and one block for Greenwich, which is captained by seniors Hayley Dionis, Maggie Petz and Skylar Wilson, all of whom also helped lead the Cards to victory versus Danbury, along with senior Kassidy Bonney, junior Alina Sarkissian and Jocelyn Jefferson.
“At this point of the season, we are doing really well,” Bernann noted. “We are figuring out what works for us and what doesn’t work. At the end of the day, everyone is getting used to playing with each other. We are playing for each other and not for ourselves.”

Darien goes into Monday’s match against Greenwich with a record of 11-0.
“Monday’s match is going to be a really good match they are a really good team but we have been working on what to do and hopefully, it will go to five,” Houdre noted.
