Sacred Heart Greenwich field hockey team cruises past Rye Country Day School, 6-0

Scoring five goals in the fourth quarter, Sacred Heart Greenwich’s field hockey team downed visiting Rye Country Day School, 6-0, in an FAA game held on Wednesday.

The Tigers, who were coming off a dramatic 3-2, win over archrival Greenwich Academy, upped their record to 10-1 overall and 6-0 in the FAA. SHG has also won eight consecutive games.

Skylar Stewart’s goal with 2:12 remaining in the first quarter gave Sacred Heart a 1-0 lead on Rye Country Day. The score remained 1-0 all the way until the fourth quarter. Then, the Tigers opened the game up.

Senior captain Charly Nemec scored a goal with 11:35 left to play in the fourth quarter, giving SHG a 2-0 advantage. Elle Corcoran’s goal at the 10:54 mark of the final quarter off an assist from Lauren Clark, made it 3-0.

Payton Sfreddo, a senior captain, tallied with 8:41 remaining in the fourth quarter and Nemec and senior captain Emma Marvin added fourth-quarter tallies, sealing the Tigers’ scoring. Nemec assisted on Marvin’s goal.

“It was good to be on our home field today,” Sacred Heart coach Sarah Hill said. “Rye CD defensively came out strong and held us to one goal in three periods of play. We generated a lot of attack and couldn’t find the back of the net until the fourth quarter. We will continue to focus on our upcoming games and work on refining our corners.”
