Greenwich High volleyball team has another successful week, topping Norwalk, Fairfield Warde; Cardinals are seeded sixth in FCIAC Tournament, will visit Trumbull in quarterfinal-round

The final week of the regular season concluded in successful fashion for the Greenwich High School volleyball team.

The Cardinals earned victories against Norwalk at home and Fairfield Warde on the road to finish their regular season with a record of 15-4 overall and 11-4 in the FCIAC.

Greenwich is the No. 6 seed in the FCIAC Volleyball Tournament, which begins on Monday. The Cardinals will visit third-seeded Trumbull in the FCIAC quarterfinals Monday at 5 p.m.

On Monday, Greenwich celebrated Senior Day before its home crowd with a 3-0 win over Norwalk, winning the match by set scores of 25-6, 25-11, 25-13.

Senior Kassidy Bonney recorded a team-high 14 kills to go along with eight digs, four blocks and three aces to help lead the Cardinals. Senior tri-captain Hayley Dionis posted a team-best 14 digs and had two aces, while junior Alina Sarkissian had eight kills, two blocks and one ace for Greenwich against Norwalk.

Yesterday, Greenwich traveled to Fairfield Warde and recorded an impressive 3-1 victory. The loss was just the second of the season for the Mustangs (13-2 FCIAC, 18-2 overall), who are seeded No. 2 in the FCIAC Tournament. Greenwich won the match by set scores of 25-23, 17-25, 25-19, 26-24.

Bonney powered the Cardinals in the hitting department, tallying a team-high 20 kills. She also amassed 24 digs, two blocks and two aces in the winning effort.

Dionis had a team-best 26 digs and added four aces, while GHS teammate Sarah Bernann, totaled a team-high 46 assists, along with five digs and four kills against Warde.

Sarkissian (10 kills, eight digs, three blocks, one ace), Joy Houdre (16 digs, four kills, two aces, one assist, one block) and Talia Muir (10 kills, three digs) also paced the Cardinals in the victory against the Mustangs.

Greenwich’s loss this week came on Wednesday at Westhill. The Vikings won the match, 25-23, 25-20, 26-24. Dionis had 19 digs and two aces, while Bonney tallied 16 kills, seven digs and four blocks.

Bernann kept the offense moving with 27 assists, four digs, three aces and two kills and Sarkissian had 10 kills, three aces, two digs and two blocks against Westhill, which has a record of 14-5 overall and 12-3 in the ultra-competitive FCIAC. Westhill is seeded fourth in the FCIAC Tournament and hosts No. 5 St. Joseph in Monday’s quarterfinals.

Houdre had 18 digs, four kills, three aces and one assist versus Westhill.
