Brunswick School’s soccer team rebounded from losses against Salisbury School and Greenwich Country Day School with a Senior Night win over Hopkins School under the lights at Cosby Field this past Friday.
In celebration of the team’s seniors, the program took a moment before the match to recognize them – Tyler Quake, Kieran Raker, Ben Matitia, Phil Stabinsky, Luke James, Rowan Glanville, and Johnny Saunders.
Raker continued his impressive scoring display, delivering a hat trick on the night. He opened the scoring for the match in the 12th minute, finishing a cross down the right side from James, which was started on a cross-field pass from Matitia. Two minutes later, Rake made it 2-0, burying a strike from 20 yards out past the Hopkins goalkeeper to his bottom right.

The visitors earned a goal off a cross in the 24th minute, but the Bruins quickly responded, regaining a two-goal lead. Junior Patrick O’Donohue created space for himself down the right sideline and directed a cross into the goal from James, giving the Bruins a 3-1 advantage.

The team’s traded goals again early in the second half. Raker completed his Senior Night hat-trick off a pass from Will Higgs in the 49th minute, Hopkins responded four minutes later on a hard shot to Bruins goalie Stabinsky’s left that he nearly deflected.
Both teams had chances to tally thereafter, but could not get past either goalkeeper again. Stabinsky registered five saves, including two quick reflex diving saves during the final 20 minutes of action.
