Facing a two-goal deficit against King in the quarterfinal-round of the FAA Boys Soccer Tournament, didn’t deflate the Greenwich Country Day School squad on Tuesday.
Instead, the sixth-seeded Tigers staged a spirited comeback.
Scoring three unanswered goals, No. 6 Greenwich Country Day edged third-seeded host King, 3-2, in the FAA quarterfinals. The Tigers moved on to Thursday’s 1:30 p.m. FAA Tournament semifinals against second-seeded Greens Farms Academy in Westport.
Calder Truesdale scored twice and Dylan Ever had a goal for GCDS, which avenged a 2-0 regular-season loss to King with the postseason triumph.

Trailing 2-0, Greenwich Country Day scored before the end of the first half when Calder tallied off a header from outside the 6-yard box, directing the ball over King’s goalkeeper.
The Tigers knotted the score at 2-2 shortly after the second half began off a corner kick. A long switch ball from Asher Goldstein came to Calder, who gave Ever a shot. The shot reflected back to Calder and he converted a shot with 20 minutes remaining, giving GCDS a 3-2 advantage.
Gael Hernandez also helped pace Greenwich Country Day’s winning effort. For the season, Greenwich Country Day is 4-3-2 against its FAA foes. They dueled their opponent in Thursday’s FAA semifinals – Greens Farms Academy – to a draw during the regular season.
