
After pulling out a hard-fought win at the buzzer against Fairfield Warde on Wednesday, the Greenwich High School girls basketball team dropped a tough, 42-38 decision to Brien McMahon on the road on Friday.
The Cardinals trailed 16-11 at halftime and 32-23 after three quarters of play. Junior forward Kate Baxendale scored all eight of her points in the second half for Greenwich, which outscored Brien McMahon, 15-10, in the fourth quarter.
Senior center/forward Julia Monteiro recorded seven points, while teammate Madi Utzinger, a sophomore guard also had seven points for Greenwich, which has an overall record of 5-2 and an FCIAC mark of 2-1.

Junior Alexa Smith posted a game-high 13 points, while teammate Sahni Kinlock, a sophomore added 12 points for the Senators (3-3). Sophomore Amirah Thellot contributed six points for McMahon, which visits Stamford on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. The win was the second straight for the Senators.
Riana Xhekaj, a senior forward/center, registered six points for the Cardinals, who entered Friday’s matchup off a 42-41 victory over Fairfield Warde, thanks to a 3-point shot at the buzzer by senior guard Megan Geiger.
Junior Alyssa Gath and sophomore Juliette Pelham scored four points apiece for Greenwich, which is in action again on Tuesday against FCIAC rival Fairfield Ludlowe.

Sophomore Anna Lenschow had two points for the Cardinals, whose game against the Falcons on Tuesday is scheduled for 7 p.m. Greenwich also hosts St. Joseph on Friday at 7 p.m.
