The Brunswick School wrestling team won three more dual meets this past Saturday to move its record to 12-1 on the season. The young Bruins squad won 39 out of the 42 bouts, capping a dominant day.

In the opening match versus Hotchkiss, co-captain Michael Accetta, a senior, (16-1) led his team with a key 2-0 victory against an All-New England wrestler in the 132-pound match. Accetta has a record of 16-1. The Bruins beat Hotchkiss, 60-18.

Ethan Phelps, a sophomore, (8-5 record for the season) stepped into the varsity lineup again and earned a 5-0 decision at 138 pounds. Brunswick’s pins came from sophomore Michael Marini (14-3 on the season), freshman Owen Bartoszek (14-2 record), freshman Michael Ligouri (7-5 record), junior Christian Yanoti (14-4 record), freshman Marco Sethi (13-3 record), Alec Harned, a sophomore (15-2 record) and sophomore Nikki Krause (2-0 record).

After defeating Marvelwood, Brunswick then wrestled a Marvelwood team that gave up nine forfeits. Bartoszek, Accetta, and Harned won by pin as did freshman Owen Wu (3-2 record) and sophomore Travis Wilson. The Bruins shut out Marvelwood, 84-0.

In the final match against the hosts from The Taft School, Bartoszek was the hero of the day with a come-from-behind win in the 106-pound match. The Taft wrestler got out to a 7-1 lead in the first period, but Bartoszek was able to bring the match back to a tie at 9-9 before pinning his opponent in the final seconds of the match. Brunswick went on to win 10 more matches by pinfall and rolled to a resounding 82-0 triumph.

On Saturday, the Bruins will host the Brunswick Invitational Wrestling Tournament in the school’s Burke Fieldhouse. The matches are scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m.
