
Brunswick School’s wrestling team recently hosted the six-team Fairchester Athletic Association Championships and excelled, earning a record of 4-1, while finishing second in the team standings.
The Bruins posted victories against Hamden Hall Country Day School, Greenwich Country Day School, Hopkins School and Rye Country Day School. Brunswick’s loss came against Greens Farms Academy, which won the FAA championship.
Bruins junior Jack Degl (18-3 record on the season) earned FAA All-League Honorable Mention for going 4-1 in the 165-pound weight class, including a tough 8-6 loss to a wrestler currently ranked No. 11 in the National Prep rankings. That match came down to a takedown in the final seconds of the third period.
Michael Accetta, a Brunswick senior, (22-3 record on the season) also went 4-1 in the FAA Tournament. Accetta avenged a loss from the finals of the previous weekend’s Brunswick Invitational Tournament. The Bruins co-captain dominated the re-match, building a 12-0 lead before pinning his opponent in the third period.

Bruins sophomore Ethan Phelps went a perfect 3-0 on the day to raise his record to 16-6, as he now steps fully into the varsity lineup.
In addition to those three Brunswick wrestlers, the following varsity starters have also now punched their tickets to the New England Prep Championships by way of their win percentage on the season with only one regular season meet now remaining: freshman Owen Bartoszek (20-5 record), junior Christian Yanoti (22-5 record), freshman Marco Sethi (18-6 record), sophomore Alec Harned (23-4 record), Quinn McGraw (sophomore, 11-4), Kyle Pagnani (senior, 15-5) and Michael Marini (sophomore, 21-5).
Brunswick defeated Hamden Hall, 84-0, was victorious against Greenwich Country Day, 75-6 and topped Hopkins, 70-8 and Rye Country Day, 78-3. Powerhouse Greens Farms Academy defeated Brunswick, 84-0.

The Bruins are aiming to conclude its regular season with another win today when it visits New York Military Academy. Brunswick will then compete in the WNEISWA Championships on Feb. 10 at Greens Farms Academy.
The NEPSWA Championships are scheduled for Feb. 16-17 at Choate Rosemary Hall.
