Greenwich Academy captures team title at FAA Swimming/Diving Championships; Sacred Heart Greenwich places 2nd in standings; Greenwich Country Day 4th

Winning an impressive eight events, Greenwich Academy’s swimming/diving tem continued its highly successful season, earning the team title at the recent seven-team FAA Championships, held recently at Hopkins School in New Haven.

The Gators finished first in the team standings with 170 points. Sacred Heart Greenwich, which is also enjoying a strong season, placed second in the team standings at the FAA Championships, totaling 122 points. Hopkins School was third with 88 points, while Greenwich Country Day School finished a solid fourth (56 points).

Alexandra Moore won two individual events for Greenwich Academy. Moore captured the FAA title in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 2:10.48. Lena D’Alessandro of Hopkins School was the runner-up in 2:13.88, while Sophia Bens of GA took third (2:17.46). Lauren McCauley of Sacred Heart Greenwich was fourth in 2:19.38, while Emily Behr (2:20.87) and Salma Thomas (2:22.43) were fifth and sixth, respectively in the 200 IM for Greenwich Academy.

Alexandra Moore was also the 100-yard backstroke champion, touching the wall in 57.89 seconds. Hopkins’ Molly Cosgrove placed second in the backstroke (59.58), while Anna Hill from Greenwich Country Day School had a third-place finish, clocking in at 1:01.24. Emily Behr, also of GCDS was fourth (1:03.05), while Julia Pujadas (1:03.35) and Caitline Deane (1:03.36) from SHG took sixth and seventh, respectively.

The FAA Championships, which was held on Feb. 10, commenced with the Greenwich Academy foursome of Alexandra Moore, Bryce Gold, Rory Keller and Penelope Lazar combining for a first-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 48.78, giving their squad 18 key points in the team standings.

Jane Cary, Victoria Mordaunt, Lauren McCauley and Emma Robredo teamed up for a second-place finish in the 200 medley relay for Sacred Heart, combining for a time of 1:52.42.

Greenwich Country Day earned the third-place medal in the 200 medley relay, with Anna Hill, Kate Chandra, Siena Christiansen and Emily Behr posting a time of 1:56.97. The Gators received two winning efforts from Penelope Lazar as well.

Lazar captured the FAA gold medal in the 100-yard butterfly in 57.62 seconds. Siena Christiansen was third for GCDS (1:00.57), while Emma Robredo (1:01.55), Julia Pujadas (1:01.73) and Lauren McCauley (1:02.02) were fourth-sixth, respectively, for Sacred Heart Greenwich in the butterfly. Greenwich Academy’s Maryann Guzman finished seventh in the race (1:02.56).

In the 500-yard freestyle, Penelope Lazar also garnered the first-place medal, recording a time of 5:08.47. GA teammate Rory Kelly took second (5:13.56), while Laurel Cary of SHG was fourth in 5:27.12. Aitana Ross (5:55.42), Beata Servick (6:11.15) and Katie Byxbee (6:15.65) were fifth-seventh, respectively for Sacred Heart in the 500 freestyle event.

The FAA diving championship went to Greenwich Academy’s Grace Wu, who won the event on the 1-meter board with a score of 501.33 points over 11 rounds of diving. The FAA diving finals were held at Brunswick School. Wu scored a personal-best in points during a championship meet.

Grayson Ford, also of the Gators, was the runner-up at the FAA Diving Championships, totaling 424.02 points. Sacred Heart Greenwich’s Emma Beaty took third (401.79) and Greenwich Academy’s Abigail Schmitt finished fifth with a score of 361.05 points. Katherine O’Brien from Sacred Heart had a sixth-place finish (339.51), while Emily Rizzi (GA, 284.70) and Kaitlyn Bentley (SHG, 275.34) were seventh and eighth, respectively in FAA diving finals.

Sacred Heart claimed the FAA 200-yard freestyle relay title. Victoria Mordaunt, Jane Cary, Caitlin Dean and Laurel Cary placed first in the race with a time of 1:40.41. Hopkins was right behind them in second place (1:40.51) and GA finished a close third (1:40.62).

Bryce Gold of GA earned top FAA honors in the 100-yard breaststroke, notching a winning time of 1:05.54. Victoria Mordaunt gave SHG a second-place finish (1:06.71), while Salma Thomas (Greenwich Academy, 1:15.99) and Ellie Holden (GA, 1:16.41) were fifth and sixth, respectively in the race.

Rory Keller took the silver medal in the 200 freestyle, registering a time of 1:58.78 for Greenwich Academy, while teammate Jane Lamberton was fourth in the event (2:00.40). Jisella Jursling from Masters School was the 200 freestyle champion (1:56.42).

In the 50-yard freestyle, Victoria Mordaunt was the runner-up for SHG, clocking in at 24.36. Bryce Gold (GA, 24.64) and Jane Cary (SHG, 25.58) were third and fourth, respectively in the event, which was won by Linnea Woolbert of Hopkins in 24.28.

Anna Hill of Greenwich Country Day captured the second-place medal in the 100-yard freestyle, touching the wall in 54.59 seconds. Linnea Woolbert of Hopkins also won the 100 freestyle (52.99). Jane Cary (SHG, 55.09, third place), Jane Lamberton (GA, 55.77, fourth), Sophia Bens (GA, 55.83, fifth), Madeleine Van Der Weijdn (55.95, GA, sixth) and Siena Christiansen (GCDS, 56.02, seventh) also made their mark in the 100 freestyle race.

The FAA Championships concluded with GA’s Madeleine Van Der Weijdn, Rory Keller, Alexandra Moore and Penelope Lazar teaming up to win the 400-freestyle relay race in 3:38.77. Lauren McCauley, Emma Robredo, Caitlin Dean and Laurel Cary were third for Sacred Heart in 3:47.87.
