Sacred Heart Greenwich basketball team advances to NEPSAC Class A semifinals with victory over Choate Rosemary Hall

After winning the FAA Tournament title, the Sacred Heart Greenwich basketball team is making a strong run in the NEPSAC Class A Tournament.

The Tigers, who defeated rival St. Luke’s School, 68-43, for the FAA Tournament championship last week, were victorious in the first round of the NESPAC Class A Tournament – the quarterfinals – against Choate Rosemary Hall.

On Wednesday, second-seeded Sacred Heart posted a convincing 59-42 home win over seventh-seeded Choate Rosemary Hall. Senior point guard Madison Hart led the Tigers’ offense, scoring 17 points. Hart also tallied five assists and four rebounds in the winning effort.

Freshman guard/forward Lucianna Parrotta registered a double-double for SHG, scoring 15 points and grabbing 15 rebounds against Choate Rosemary Hall. She also had two steals for the victors.

Senior guard Olivia Leahy also had a strong offensive game for the Tigers, pouring in 10 points. Freshman Emma Matthews had eight points and three rebounds, while senior guard/forward Payton Sfreddo notched six points, five rebounds and three assists for Sacred Heart.

Victoria Hart, a senior guard, added five steals, four assists and three rebounds, while junior forward/center Jadamarie Henry gathered seven rebounds for the victors.

Sacred Heart will host third-seeded Kent School in today’s 1 p.m. NEPSAC Class A Tournament semifinals. In the other semifinal-round matchup, No. 1-seeded Loomis Chaffee School hosts fourth-seeded Hotchkiss School.

Today’s semifinal-round winners will face each other in tomorrow’s NEPSAC Class A championship game at 4:45 p.m. at Noble and Greenough School.
