Four games into the season, the Brunswick School baseball team is on pace for another winning season.
The Bruins currently sport a record of 3-1, with their victories coming against Citius Prep Baseball Academy, Greens Farms Academy and Loomis Chaffee School.
Brunswick’s most recent game, which was played on Monday, resulted in a loss. The Bruins were defeated by FAA rival Hamden Hall Country Day School, 5-1, in a rematch of the 2023 FAA Tournament final.

Brunswick, which was victorious against Hamden Hall in last season’s FAA Tournament, received another strong start from senior right-hander/captain Michael Yeager in Monday’s matchup against the visiting Hornets. Yeager allowed only one earned run, but Hamden Hall capitalized on several Bruins errors.
“He threw six solid innings,” Brunswick first-season coach Connor Redahan said of Yeager. “He did his job, he came out and threw very well. Quite honestly, we need to make the plays behind him. There were way too many innings that got extended because we weren’t making the plays ourselves.”
Yeager threw strikes and displayed his powerful fastball against Hamden Hall – just like he did in the Bruins’ season-opening win versus Citius Prep.

“It was a tough game, they’re a good team,” Yeager said. “We just made too many mistakes. I still say we beat ourselves and made too many mistakes overall. We’ll see those guys again. It was tough, me as well, I didn’t field my position well and mostly just free passes. Letting too many guys on with walks – they’re a good hitting team, so they’re going to make you pay. I just did my best to try to get outs.”
Brunswick’s run against Hamden Hall came on senior catcher Jerry Guzman’s RBI single. Freshman second baseman Jayden Montanez walked and scored on Guzman’s run-scoring single.
With the victory, Hamden Hall improved its record to 4-0. The Hornets have also earned victories against Greens Farms Academy, Greenwich Country Day School and Putnam Science.

“It happens, it’s part of baseball, but we have to come back strong,” Brunswick junior third baseman/captain Jackson Shepelsky said. “He (Hamden Hall’s starting pitcher) was definitely good, he had good stuff and a lot of credit to him. We have to clean up some things, some ground balls, minor things, but I thought we looked really good.”
Said Redahan: “They’re a good team and we just couldn’t figure it out today. On to the next one, but we can’t flush what we need to work on. We need to make the adjustments necessary in order to move forward.”
Freshman right-hander Tyrus Ostrowski pitched the seventh inning for the Bruins versus Hamden Hall. Ostrowski allowed one run in the inning, while striking out a batter.
“Ty has been fantastic for us,” Redahan noted. “He pounds the zone, he comes out and especially as a freshman – he’s not afraid to challenge the opposing team. He comes out every single day and he’s got that swagger about him to where he doesn’t really let anything bother him. He came in against Loomis on Saturday and had a really efficient 10-pitch inning.”
In Brunswick’s 10-2 victory over Loomis Chaffee, which was played last week at Brunswick, junior leadoff hitter/center fielder Connor Jones drove in two runs with a single, Yeager delivered a two-run double and junior Wim Nook brought a pair of runs home with a single.
Senior Calder Glassman, sophomore Teddy Bancroft and Ostrowski pitched in the triumph against Loomis Chaffee.
Brunswick visits FAA opponent Hopkins School Thursday in New Haven.
