Cardinals girls lacrosse team tops Bronxville, Northwest United Lacrosse in convincing fashion; Emma Abbazia with seven goals in Greenwich’s two victories

This week saw the Greenwich High School girls lacrosse team register two impressive victories.

The Cardinals earned their first win of their 2024 season by defeating Bronxville at Cardinal Stadium on Monday, 11-6. Today, Greenwich was victorious on the road against Northwest United Lacrosse, 15-0, in Litchfield, Conn.

Northwest United Lacrosse is a team that encompasses Litchfield, Nonnewaug, Wamogo and Thomaston. In Monday’s game against visiting Bronxville (N.Y.) High School, senior Emma Abbazia tallied four goals, one assist and eight draw controls to pace Greenwich.

Sophomore Giselle DiPietro had two goals and one assist, as did sophomore Dillon McFerran in the winning effort. Junior Aubrey Roth scored twice, while sophomore Sophia DiPietro had one goal and one assist for the Cardinals. Sophomore Leighton Collier had three draw controls for GHS.

In today’s road triumph versus Northwest United Lacrosse, Abbazia again led Greenwich’s goal scorers, totaling three goals. She also added one assist, while Roth posted two goals and two assists.

Giselle DiPietro (two goals, one assist), McFerran (two goals), sophomore Lindsay Messer (one goal), senior Cate Adorney (one goal) and Annabelle DeGennaro (one goal) also sparked Greenwich’s offense.

Up next for the Cardinals is a home game against FCIAC opponent Stamford on Tuesday.
