Greenwich High School’s baseball team enters tomorrow’s road game against Bridgeport Central on a two-game winning streak.
The Cardinals earned a 6-3 win against St. Joseph on April 17 and were victorious against Wilton on April 19, 6-4. Greenwich has won three of its last four games and has an overall record of 4-5.
In the Cardinals’ road victory against FCIAC foe Wilton, they scored two runs in the first inning, two runs in the fourth inning and added two more in the seventh inning.
Senior first baseman John McHugh went 2 for 3 with a walk and two runs scored and senior catcher Cody Baker was 2 for 4 to help pace Greenwich’s lineup.
Junior outfielder Emmy Bulis had one hit, one RBI, two runs scored and drew a walk, while junior outfielder Nick D’Andrea had one hit, one run scored and a walk for the victors. Junior second baseman Aidan Brehm added one hit and one RBI for the Cardinals, who finished the game with eight hits, while playing errorless baseball.
On the mound, GHS was led by senior right-hander Tommy Passamano. Passamano allowed three runs on five hits in five innings to earn the win. Passamano’s strong outing featured eight strikeouts and he walked only one batter to help lead the team past Wilton.
McHugh picked up the save, allowing one run in one inning of relief. In Greenwich’s victory over St. Joseph, McHugh had a hit, two RBIs, a run scored and walked twice.
Baker went 2 for 4 with two RBIs and one run scored, while Bulis collected two hits for the Cards. D’Andrea had one hit and scored a run, while sophomore shortstop Luke Tocci notched tallied one hit, one RBI and one run scored in the winning effort.
Senior Troy Goodwin earned the win on the mound for Greenwich. Goodwin yielded four hits in six innings against St. Joseph, striking out seven batters in the process.
After visiting Bridgeport Central tomorrow, Greenwich hosts New Canaan on Wednesday for a 4:30 p.m. game. The Cardinals will then play host to Staples Friday at 4:30 p.m.
