Greenwich High’s baseball team added two more wins to its record, posting victories against Bridgeport Central and New Canaan, giving it momentum heading into Friday’s home game against FCIAC opponent Staples.
The Cardinals have won four consecutive games, raising their record to 6-5. All four of their wins during their winning streak have come against FCIAC foes.
On Wednesday, Greenwich earned a 7-5 victory against visiting New Canaan. The Cards scored one run in the first inning, four runs in the second inning and added two more in the third. They led 7-4 after three innings.
Senior Troy Goodwin was the winning pitcher, striking out eight batters in five innings of work, while allowing eight hits. Tommy Passamano, also a senior, pitched two scoreless innings of relief to pick up the save for the Cardinals against the Rams.
John McHugh, a senior first baseman, had one hit, one RBI and one run scored, while Goodwin helped his own cause, going 2 for 4 with one RBI in the winning effort. Cody Baker, a senior catcher, collected one hit, one run scored and an RBI, while junior outfielder Nick D’Andrea went 1 for 2 with two runs scored and a walk for GHS, which had seven hits for the game.
Sophomore Luke Tocci drove in three runs to also power Greenwich’s offense. Junior Aidan Brehm, an infielder, scored two runs and drew two walks for Greenwich, which posted its sixth win of the season by beating New Canaan.
On Tuesday, Greenwich traveled to Bridgeport Central in Bridgeport and rolled to a 21-7 win. Greenwich scored three runs in the first inning, seven in the third, one each in the fourth and fifth, three in the sixth and six in the seventh. McHugh had three hits and scored three runs against Central.
Goodwin had one hit, three runs scored and two RBI, while Bulis added one hit, three RBIs, two walks and one run scored for the victors. D’Andrea knocked in two runs and scored three times and Tocci scored a pair of runs and had two RBIs.
Junior Jake Melley, Lucas Meinelt, Brehm and Meyer each had one RBI for Greenwich, which received four innings of solid pitching from McHugh, who earned the win on the mound.
Greenwich’s game against Staples on Friday begins at 4:30 p.m.
