
Concluding another sensational regular season, the Brunswick School baseball team heads into the FAA Tournament as the No. 2 seed after registering victories against league opponents King School and St. Luke’s School this week.
The Bruins came from behind to beat King at home on Tuesday, 4-3, then traveled to St. Luke’s in New Canaan on Thursday and won, 5-1. Brunswick finished the regular season with a record of 12-2 in the FAA. Overall, Brunswick sports a stellar 13-5 mark so far this season.
Nick Stern received his first start on the mound for the Bruins against King and pitched two innings, allowing three runs. King took a 3-0 first-inning lead, then were shut out the rest of the game. Andrew Gally pitched three effective innings in his first relief appearance for the Bruins, then sophomore right-hander Jackson Cunningham pitched a scoreless sixth inning for the victors, who received a flawless seventh inning on the mound from senior Jerry Guzman. Guzman picked up the save for the Bruins.

Trailing 3-0, Brunswick closed to within 3-2 of King with a two-run first inning. Junior centerfielder Connor Jones hit a bases-loaded two -run double for Brunswick, cutting its deficit to 3-2.
The score stayed 3-2 until the bottom of the sixth inning. The Bruins loaded the bases in the sixth inning, then senior Reed Hyde stepped up to the plate and delivered a single that scored two runs, giving the Bruins a 4-3 lead, which they held courtesy of Guzman’s pitching in the seventh inning.
In Brunswick’s 5-1 victory over host St. Luke’s on Thursday, sophomore right-hander Teddy Bancroft did not allow a run in his four innings on the mound. Cunningham worked two shutout innings of relief, then sophomore Michael Marini pitched a scoreless seventh inning in the winning effort.

Doubles by Jones and junior Wim Nook keyed the Bruins’ two-run second inning. The Bruins added three more runs in the fifth inning versus the Storm. Jones came home on a passed ball and Guzman scored Nook by hitting a sacrifice fly.
Seeded second, Brunswick will host St. Luke’s School in the quarterfinal-round of the FAA Tournament on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. The Bruins won the FAA Tournament in 2023, defeating Hamden Hall Country Day School in the final.
