Brunswick School sent two scullers to the USRowing Northeast Youth Championships in Lowell, MA, recently, and they both excelled. Sophomore George Kapp won the Under-17 single event and junior Reed Eddy finished fourth in the Under-19 single event. Both boys earned bids to the USRowing Youth National Championships in Sarasota, FL by placing among the top 4 in their respective events at this regional qualifier.

Kapp dominated the field in both the U17 1x Time Trial and again in the Final. Kapp won the Final by an impressive margin of more than 54 seconds. The sophomore showed his technical prowess in the sculling boat after spending the spring season sweeping in 7-seat of the Brunswick Varsity Eight boat.

Kapp continued his tremendous year in the sport – in the fall, he was the youngest competitor to earn a medal in any of the Junior categories at the Head of the Charles Regatta. Now, he is headed to Nationals in the single.

Eddy placed second amongst a field of 18 scullers in the U19 1x Time Trial. The Brunswick junior then took third in his semifinal, putting him through into the 6-boat Final. Eddy, who has spent the spring in 6-seat of Brunswick’s Varsity Eight, showed his sculling skills taking fourth in a competitive field in the Final.

Eddy continues his tremendous junior year, which also saw him earn a silver medal at the Head of the Charles Regatta in the fall and has earned him an invitation to the United States Under 19 National Team Selection Camp this coming July in Chula Vista, CA.

Kapp and Eddy will then finish the season at the USRowing Youth National Championships in Sarasota, Florida in early June.
