Led by the doubles team of junior Yume Inagawa and freshman Cameron Sowter, the Greenwich High School girls tennis team has certainly been well-represented at the CIAC Invitational Tennis Tournament.

Inagawa and Sowter, who entered the tournament unseeded, have advanced all the way to the championship match of the Invitational Tournament’s doubles bracket, after going an impressive 4-0 in their first four matches of the ultra-competitive event.

Sowter and Inagawa will play senior Phoebe Shostak and sophomore Paige Seaver in today’s 3:30 p.m. title match of the Invitational Tournament, held Conard High School in West Hartford.

Greenwich’s tandem, which starred at the No. 2 spot during the season for the Cardinals, who recently captured the CIAC Class LL championship with a victory over Staples, earned a berth in the title match by defeating their third-seeded opponents from Old Lyme High School in Tuesday’s semifinals. Inagawa/Sowter posted a decisive 6-4, 6-0 semifinal-round victory.

In the quarterfinal-round of the state Invitational tourney, also held on Tuesday, Inagawa/Sowter were victorious against senior Lily Brown and senior Charlotte Stapkowski, 6-3, 6-2.

The Round of 16 match on Monday saw Sowter/Inagawa register a 6-7, 7-6, 10-3 win against second-seeded Lucy Day/Magdalena Murphy from Fairfield Ludlowe. In the Round of 32, the first round, Inagawa and Sowter topped their foes from Farmington, 6-1, 6-0.

Greenwich’s successful doubles team of seniors Malena Schraa and Emily Weinstein scored a convincing win in their opening-round match. Schraa and Weinstein won their match against Brookfield, 6-3, 6-0. Unfortunately, Schraa suffered an ankle injury, so they had to withdraw in the second round. The duo sparked the Cardinals throughout the season at the No. 1 doubles spot.

In the singles bracket at the Invitational Tournament, Greenwich senior Kyra Dybas, seeded 14th, registered a 6-4, 4-6, 11-9 victory against Elisa Tunaro of Fairfield Warde in the first round.

Dybas was defeated by No. 3-seeded Maria Weygang of Farmington, 6-3, 6-1 in the quarterfinal-round. Dybas produced a highly successful season for the Cardinals at the No. 1 singles position.

Junior Shining Sun, who played at No. 2 singles for the Cards this spring, won her first-round match of the tourney, topping Jillian Saunders of Litchfield, 6-0, 6-1. In the Round of 16, she lost to No. 1-seeded Alexa Orlins of Cheshire, 6-2, 6-1.
