Emma Abbazia earns All-America lacrosse honors; Leighton Collier, Giselle DiPietro, Aubrey Roth, All-State, Grace O’Connor receives All-Academic accolades

Photo by Rachael Stover: Emma Abbazia, who graduated from Greenwich High School this month, received All-America lacrosse honors following a standout senior season for the Cardinals’ varsity girls lacrosse team.

Emma Abbazia, who graduated from Greenwich High School this month, received the honor of being selected as a CHSCA/USA Lacrosse Connecticut 2024 All-America athlete after producing a highly impressive season for the Cardinals’ girls lacrosse team.

Abbazia, who will play lacrosse at the University of Maryland, also received CHSCA/USA Lacrosse Connecticut All-America honors in 2023. During Greenwich’s 2024 season, Abbazia once again, powered the team’s offensive attack.

She registered 79 goals and 39 assists for the Cardinals, who made it to both the FCIAC Tournament and CIAC Class LL Tournament semifinals. Abbazia also enabled GHS to gain key possessions throughout the season, finishing with 103 draw controls, while causing 29 turnovers and collecting 14 ground balls.

The 2024 season saw Abbazia reach and eclipse the 200-career goal milestone for her outstanding career. For her career at GHS, Abbazia scored an amazing 249 goals.

Leighton Collier, Giselle DiPietro and Aubrey Roth, each received CHSCA/All-State Class LL First Team honors for the 2024 season after having standout seasons for the Cardinals.

DiPietro, who recently concluded her sophomore season, excelled at attack for the Cardinals, scoring numerous clutch goals throughout the season for the team.

Collier, also a rising junior, helped solidify the midfield position for Greenwich. She was a playmaker in all areas of the field and aided the Cards on draw controls as well. Roth, a rising senior, flourished once again at attack for GHS.

Roth was one of Greenwich’s main goal scorers and playmakers at the attack position, igniting the offense throughout the spring season.

Grace O’Connor, a 2024 graduate, achieved the honor of receiving USA Lacrosse Connecticut All-Academic honors. O’Connor and Abbazia were also captains of the Cardinals’ successful team.
