Lucianna Parrotta, an incoming Sacred Heart Greenwich sophomore, was selected as a member of Team Puerto Rico, which will be one of 16 teams competing in the 2024 FIBA Under-17 Basketball World Cup in Mexico.
The tournament, which is scheduled to take place from July 13-21, includes 16 teams and is in its eighth year of existence. Parrotta, a guard/forward on Sacred Heart’s varsity basketball team this past winter, is listed as a power forward on the Team Puerto Rico roster.

The roster for Team Puerto Rico includes 12 players and is coached by Michelle Gonzalez. The United States, Puerto Rico, Argentina, Australia, Canada, China, Croatia, Egypt, Finland, France, Italy, Japan, Mali, Mexico, New Zealand and Spain comprise the FIBA Under-17 Basketball World Cup. Parrotta’s Puerto Rico team plays its first game on July 13 (tomorrow) against Croatia.
Earning a spot on Sacred Heart’s varsity team this past winter, Parrotta made a significant impact. Parrotta scored 15 points and grabbed 15 rebounds in the Tigers’ 59-42 win over Choate Rosemary Hall in the NEPSAC Class A Tournament quarterfinals.

She totaled 19 points in Sacred Heart’s 68-43 victory over St. Luke’s in the 2024 FAA Tournament final and posted 13 points in the Tigers’ 53-39 triumph against Hamden Hall in the tournament’s semifinals. Those were just several of the games that Parrotta excelled in throughout the season for Sacred Heart, coached by Ayo Hart.
Parrotta helped key a Sacred Heart squad that earned an impressive 20 victories, finishing the 2023-2024 season with a record of 20-6.
