The Greenwich High School boys swimming team produced a season to remember this past winter, winning the team title at the CIAC State Open, Class LL and FCIAC championship, while registering numerous outstanding performances.
On their way toward becoming champions again, the Cardinals had an All-America performance in the 200-yard freestyle relay. Luke Mendelsohn, Jake Melley, Felix Flakstad and Kegan Clark combined for a National Swim Coaches Association All-America time of 1:24.77 in the 200-yard freestyle event at the CIAC Class LL Championships at Wesleyan University this past March. The foursome’s time in the event ranked 95th in the nation.

Clark graduated from Greenwich High last month and will continue his swimming career at Gettysburg College. Flakstad is also a 2024 GHS graduate and is headed to Williams College, where he will compete on the swimming team. The duo excelled during their four seasons on Greenwich’s varsity swimming/diving team. Mendelsohn and Melley are entering their senior year at GHS.
Mendelsohn, Melley, Flakstad and Clark, who anchored the 200-yard freestyle race, won the Class LL title in the event with their All-America time of 1:24.77.

They also won the 200 freestyle race at the CIAC State Open Championships (1:25.01). Coached by the legendary Terry Lowe, the Cardinals have won the State Open 10 straight seasons and 38 times overall, by far the most of any team in Connecticut. They have also won 10 consecutive Class LL championships and an unmatched 38 overall.
