After experiencing a tough, one-goal loss against Taft School, Sacred Heart Greenwich’s field hockey team got right back on the winning track.

The Tigers topped King School, 5-0, in an FAA matchup on Saturday in Stamford, scoring four second-quarter goals on their way to registering a decisive 5-0 win. The victory raised the Tigers’ record to 4-1.

Following a scoreless first quarter, Sacred Heart outscored King, 4-0, in the second quarter. Kingsley Ely opened the scoring for SHG, tallying off an assist from Xan Collins with 11:18 remaining in the second quarter.

With 7:20 remaining in the second quarter, Lindsay Schwind scored, giving Sacred Heart a 2-0 lead on King. Elle Corcoran notched a goal with 4:03 to go in the second quarter, then with 34 seconds to go in the frame, Charly Nemec converted a shot, making it 4-0.

Nemec capped the scoring with 9:44 left in the third quarter. Teresa Harkins made two saves in goal in the winning effort. Sacred Heart is in action again at NEPSAC foe Choate Rosemary Hall on Wednesday.

“Today we had a great game against King,” Nemec said. “Once we got momentum, we were able to put in four goals in the first half. Our passing was strong and we packed the middle of the field which shut down their outlet. All around great effort from the team and a great FAA win.”
