Winning streak continues for Greenwich High School field hockey team with victories against McMahon, New Canaan

It was another winning week for the Greenwich High School field hockey team.

The Cardinals added two more wins to their record, upending Brien McMahon in Norwalk and New Canaan at home. With the victories, which upped their win streak to seven games, Greenwich improved its recorded its record to 9-3.

This past Wednesday, Oct. 9, the Cardinals cruised to an 8-0 victory against Brien McMahon. Stella Thibeault recorded a hat trick, while Kate Donnellan and Julia Lattuada scored two goals to power Greenwich past the Senators.

Thibeault opened the scoring with 12:07 remaining in the first quarter. Donnellan followed with a goal off a Thibeault assist at the 9:54 mark of the opening quarter, making it 2-0. Lattuada’s first-quarter goal came with 4:34 to go in the first quarter. Donnellan notched another first-quarter goal, putting the Cards on top of the Senators, 4-0.

Thibeault tallied again, this time in the second quarter, giving GHS a 5-0 advantage with 12:17 left in the second quarter. Her goal late in the second period off a Donnellan assist made it 6-0 in favor of the Cardinals. In the third quarter, Lattuada scored a goal off an assist from Clara Ojea Quintana and Julia DeLuca capped Greenwich’s scoring off an assist from Ava Caminiti.

Greenwich then hosted FCIAC rival New Canaan at Cardinal Stadium on Oct. 11 and proceeded to post a convincing 5-0 win for its seventh straight win. The Cardinals have another busy week coming up. They will host Trumbull Monday at 4 p.m. and Staples on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. GHS will also face visiting Cheshire on Saturday at 12 p.m.
