With the season just about at its midway point, the Brunswick School soccer team is beginning to make its mark in a big way.
After starting the season 1-4-1, the Bruins have reached the .500 mark, thanks to three consecutive victories. The Bruins, who now own a record of 4-4-1, defeated The Frederick Gunn School for their first home win of the season on Sept. 28, 2-1, then topped Kent School on Oct. 5, 3-1 and beat Trinity-Pawling School, 3-0 (Oct. 9).
Against The Frederick Gunn School, senior Theo Perkins gave the Bruins a 1-0 lead, beating two defenders, before converting a well-placed shot in the 20th minute. Patrick O’Donohue scored the game-winning goal for the Bruins six minutes into the second half.

After being fouled, O’Donohue scored off a free kick from approximately 18 yards out, putting Brunswick ahead, 2-0. Senior Ollie Leonard, senior Sebi Medina, sophomore Ray Foley, junior Declan Murray and sophomore Justo Iraolo each paced the Bruins’ defensively in the winning effort.
Senior Will Higgs, Perkins and junior Fernando Uyaguari also paced the Bruins with solid performances on throughout. Josh Katz provided stellar play in goal for the victors. On the road against Kent School, the Lions took a 1-0 lead with a goal in the fifth minute, but the Bruins responded before halftime.
In the 37th minute, Higgs, a senior captain, scored off a pass from senior Marcus Matitia, evening the score at 1-1.

The Bruins took the lead for good when junior John Buttafuoco headed in a throw-in from Higgs in the 59th minute, making it 2-1. ‘Wick padded its lead in the 70th minute, as Agustin Grether had a goal off an assist from Higgs.
Leonard, Foley, Medina and Franco Fajardo helped keep Kent’s offensive players at bay, as Brunswick held on for a 2-1 win. Michael Attubato earned the victory in goal.

In the Bruins’ latest triumph, a 3-0 win against Trinity-Pawling School on Oct. 9, tallied three times during a 10-minute span in the first half. Junior Matias DeBono notched the first goal, scoring in the 31st minute off a feed by Higgs.
Eight minutes later, Grether scored off a DeBono assist, increasing ‘Wick’s lead to 2-1.

Higgs goal off a pass from Grether made in 3-0 in favor of the host Bruins in the 41st minute. Attubato and Katz shared goalkeeping duties in the triumph.
Up next for the Bruins is a home game Salisbury School on Wednesday at 3 p.m. Brunswick will then host St. Luke’s School on Friday at 5 p.m. as it celebrates its Homecoming.
