
Greenwich High School’s volleyball team made it a perfect 10 on Friday.
The host Cardinals swept Westhill, 3-0, running their winning streak to 10 matches. Greenwich, which is 10-0 in its last 10 matches has a sparkling record of 17-1 with two matchups remaining in the regular season.
Against the visiting Vikings, the Cardinals won the match by set scores of 25-19, 25-13, 25-15. Sarah Bernann, a senior setter, recorded 32 assists, 4 aces, 1 block and one kills to help pace Greenwich’s offense. Senior Joy Houdre provided excellent defense, posting 17 digs to go along with one assist, one kill and two aces for the Cardinals.
Kayah Armstrong, a sophomore, tallied nine kills, 5 digs, 1 block and one ace, while senior Alina Sarkissian notched 11 kills, two blocks and one dig. Also powering Greenwich past Westhill was sophomore Heidi Zieme (9 digs, 7 kills, 1 assist).
In the Cardinals’ 3-0 triumph on the road against Norwalk on Wednesday, junior Aleena Jacobsen had seven digs and five kills. Armstrong added eight kills, three digs and two blocks and Zieme registered 12 digs and three kills. Sophomore setter Victoria Sullivan finished with 28 assists and two kills for the victors. Greenwich won the match by set scores of 25-10, 25-9, 25-10.
This past Monday, the Cardinals cruised past Ridgefield on the road, 3-0 (25-16, 25-10, 25-13). Bernann compiled 30 assists, eight digs, three aces and two kills. Houdre had 17 digs, five assists and three aces and Armstrong added nine kills, two digs, two aces and two blocks for GHS.
Sarkissian (6 kills, 2 blocks, 1 dig) and Zieme (10 kills, 5 digs, 1 ace) also paced Greenwich, which hosts Fairfield Warde on Monday at 5:30 p.m. then visits Brien McMahon Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.
