Sacred Heart Greenwich field hockey team caps regular season with decisive road win over St. Luke’s; FAA Tournament up next for Tigers

The Sacred Heart Greenwich field hockey team put the finishing touch on a dominant regular season by upending St. Luke’s School, 7-0, in an FAA game held on Oct. 28 in New Canaan.

For the season, the Tigers finished with a record of 7-0 in the FAA, giving them the FAA regular season championship. Overall, SHG has a record of 14-2. Sacred Heart has earned the No. 1 seed in the FAA Tournament, which begins next week and has home field advantage throughout the tournament.

In Sacred Heart’s road win against St. Luke’s, Ainsley Clough got the team on the scoreboard first, tallying with 4:38 remaining in the opening quarter. Kingsley Ely gave the Tigers a 2-0 lead with a goal off an assist from Ainsley Clough with 12:37 left in the second quarter.

Ainsley Clough converted a penalty stroke at the 10:44 mark of the second quarter, making it 3-0. Joanna Eken scored a goal off an assist from Lindsay Schwind with 7:01 to go in the second quarter, giving the Tigers a 4-0 advantage.

Schwind scored with 13:28 to go in the third quarter, stretching the Tigers’ lead to 5-0. In the fourth quarter, Ely and Elle Corcoran tallied one goal apiece to cap the game’s scoring. SHG had a 7-0 advantage on St. Luke’s in penalty corners.

“This was our last game in the FAA and we would like to congratulate the team for winning the FAA regular season title for four consecutive years,” Sacred Heart coach Alex Gheorghe said. “The first goal of our season is now complete and we will focus on our next target.”
