Decisive victories against Hall High School and Joel Barlow raised Greenwich High School’s girls basketball team’s record to a perfect 4-0 to start the 2024-2025 season.
And all four of the Cardinals’ wins have come in dominant fashion.
On December 21, Greenwich played Hall at New Canaan High School and rolled to a resounding 66-30 victory in a non-conference game held at New Canaan High School. It was absolutely all Cardinals in the first quarter of their matchup against Hall, as they stormed out to a 28-0 first-quarter lead.
The Cardinals held a 28-0 lead after the first quarter and entered halftime with a 35-9 advantage. They took a 54-23 lead into the fourth quarter. Freshman forward/center Zuri Faison paced Greenwich’s balanced offense, scoring a game-high 22 points.
Faison helped the Cards start the game quickly, scoring 14 first-half points. Junior guard Madi Utzinger scored 13 points, eight of which came during Greenwich’s standout first half. Elsa Xhekaj, a freshman guard, posted 12 points, including two 3-pointers for GHS. She totaled eight first-half points.

Junior Mikayla Kiernan added nine points with one 3-pointer and senior power forward Kate Baxendale had four points in the winning effort. Lauren Judge, a junior (four points) and Lily Nogaki, a sophomore (two points) also chipped in offensively for Greenwich.
“It was a game where every member of the team positively contributed defensively,” GHS coach Megan Wax said. “We were active and we forced a lot of turnovers. Offensively, we moved the ball quickly and had nice cuts for wide open looks. It was a great way to start the Holiday break.”
Chloe Lynch had 11 points for Hall, all of which came in the second half. Greenwich then visited Joel Barlow High School on Dec. 28 and came away with a 38-21 win. All four of Greenwich’s victories so far this season have come by more than 15 points, with three coming by more than 30 points.
Up next for the Cardinals is another non-conference game. Greenwich will travel to Shepaug Valley High School for a 1:30 p.m. game on Dec. 30.
