Greenwich High School’s varsity cheerleading team made program history before a big crowd at Trumbull High School on Feb. 1.
Greenwich, which finished a strong second at the Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference Championships the past two seasons, was second to none when the 2025 conference championships was held on Feb. 1 at Trumbull High School.
The Cardinals won the FCIAC Grand Championship title, which is awarded to the highest scoring team at the competition, for the first time in Greenwich High School history.

Coached by Julia Vyskocil, Greenwich finished in second place at the FCIAC Championships the previous two seasons and placed second six times overall. The Cardinals earned the FCIAC Grand Championship by performing an outstanding, championship routine.
The highest scoring team out of the 13 squads that competed at the FCIAC Cheerleading Championships, Greenwich finished with a Grand Championship score of 96.15 points. Danbury, which won the FCIAC title numerous times in the past, placed second with a score of 91.65 points and Stamford finished in third place (84.95 points). Fairfield Ludlowe (84.5 points) and St. Joseph (76.8 points) rounded out the top-five teams at the FCIAC championship meet.
“The entire team was so motivated and determined to win,” Vyskocil said. “They have been fighting so hard and pushing themselves every day. They are an incredible team. They work together. They motivate each other. They trust each other. They push each other and they challenge each other because they know what they are capable of and have dreamt of this achievement.”

The Cardinals are captained by Sierra Erensen, Siera Rollins and Jane Trager, all of whom also earned individual honors.
“My captains, Siera Rollins, Sierra Erensen, and Jane Trager, were essential in leading the team to this incredible achievement,” Vyskocil noted. “They also were all named to the ALL FCIAC Team, which consists of the top 20 athletes in the FCIAC.”
“My athletes took the mat with passion in their hearts and a true fight,” Vyskocil continued. “They have worked so hard for this and they know that we have more work to do to continue to reach their goals.”

Indeed, Greenwich put in plenty of practice and effort leading up to the FCIAC Cheerleading Championships and it showed when the team exhibited their winning, 3-minute routine.
“Having been 21 years since Greenwich has taken home this title, these athletes put on an incredible performance that showcased just how hard they have been working this season,” Vyskocil said. “A staggering 4.5 points ahead of their nearest competitor, a team who had won the past 8 years in a row (Danbury) the Greenwich Varsity Cheerleaders scored a 96.15 out of 100; securing the FCIAC Grand Championship title, which is awarded to the highest scoring team at the competition. This is the first time in Greenwich High School history that they won this honor.”
With the FCIAC championship in their possession, the Cardinals have plenty of season left.
“Their quest for a State Championship continues with the State competition scheduled for Saturday, March 1st, also at Trumbull High School,” Vyskocil said.
