It was a historic season for the Sacred Heart Greenwich varsity basketball team and the head coach who guided the program recently earned a prestigious honor.

Ayo Hart, Sacred Heart Greenwich’s head coach, was recently named the NEPSAC Class A Coach of the Year for the 2024-2025 season. Hart coached the Tigers to great success this winter. The Tigers registered a record of 22-5, won the FAA regular season title and captured the FAA Tournament championship for the second straight season with a victory over rival St. Luke’s School.

Sacred Heart finished the season undefeated against its FAA opponents (11-0) and earned the No. 2 seed in the NEPSAC Class A Tournament. After defeating Greenwich Academy, Hamden Hall Country Day School and St. Luke’s School in the FAA Tournament, SHG topped Milton Academy, 63-46 and Kent School, 54-52, in the NEPSAC Class A Tournament quarterfinals and semifinals, respectively, to reach the New England championship game.

In the Class A NEPSAC tourney final, the Tigers played well, but were defeated by top-seeded Loomis Chaffee School – the four-time defending NEPSAC Class A champion – 51-45. Hart earned career win No. 100 at Sacred Heart when the team was victorious against Greenwich Academy in the FAA quarterfinals.

Hart commented on receiving the honor of being chosen as the NEPSAC Class A Coach of the Year on X: “I’m honored to be named Class A Coach of the Year, but this award belongs to our entire program. I am forever grateful to Coach (Carol) Leib and Coach K (Kim Augustine) who were an integral part of EVERY step we took along our journey this year; to Laurie Rousseau, our AD, who supported us and provided us with everything we needed for our program; to all of my student-athletes present and past who have made me a better coach every day, and to every coach who has opened your gym to me, mentored me, and helped me to be the best version of myself. And most importantly, to my family who have given me the love and freedom to pour so much of my being into this game that I love. Thank you all.”
