It was an impressive season-opener for Greenwich High School’s boys volleyball team, which defeated Westhill High School in a home match on April 5, 3-0.
The Cardinals beat the Vikings by set scores of 25-19, 25-16, 25-23. Chris Pingol registered eight kills, one dig and one block, while Dylan Gomez tallied nine digs and seven kills to pace Greenwich against their FCIAC foe.
Logan Jaycox had 15 assists and five digs and Keio Fukushima added 12 digs, three assists and one ace in the winning effort. Hiro Sibble (16 kills, eight digs) to power Greenwich, along with teammate Gabriel Lazo (12 assists, six digs).
The Cardinals hosted non-conference opponent Joel Barlow on April 14 and dropped a 3-0 decision. Barlow won the match, 25-15, 25-20, 25-12. Gomez had 10 digs, seven kills, one ace and one block for GHS. Jaycox posted 11 assists and two aces and Fukushima recorded 13 digs and one ace for the Cardinals (1-3).
Sibble finished with 11 digs, four kills and two blocks for Greenwich, which will look to get back on the winning track when it hosts Thursday at 12 p.m.
