Coming off two straight undefeated championship seasons, Greenwich High School’s varsity boys tennis team opened its 2025 campaign with 7-0 victories against Fairfield Ludlowe and St. Joseph.
The Cardinals captured the FCIAC and CIAC Class LL titles the past two seasons, earning a record of 22-0 both years. On April 14, Greenwich began its 2025 season with a 7-0 home win against Fairfield Ludlowe. Senior Manuel Galli Specos played at No. 1 singles for the Cardinals and posted a 6-0, 6-0 win against his Fairfield Ludlowe foe.
At second singles, sophomore Will Neunfeldt gave Greenwich a 6-3, 6-2 victory. In the No. 3 singles match, freshman Ciccio Lindia was victorious for GHS, 6-0, 6-0. Fourth singles saw Cardinals sophomore Zach Schwartz cruise to victory as well, registering a 6-1, 6-2 triumph.
In doubles play, Ishan Ambastha and Pierre August, both seniors, won their match, 6-2, 6-4. Sophomore Jake Orbanowski and freshman Ryan Stanton also won in straight sets at second doubles, 6-1, 6-4, for the Cards. Sophomore Amir Fischer and freshman Milo Russo won their matchup at fourth doubles in impressive fashion as well, sweeping to a 6-2, 6-1 victory.
Senior Alex Salib competed at first singles for Greenwich against visiting St. Joseph on April 15 and decisively won his match, 6-0, 6-2. Adam McFarlane, also a senior, was perfect at second singles, winning 6-0, 6-0, as were Fischer and Russo at third and fourth singles, respectively.
Greenwich, which has now won 46 consecutive matches going back to the 2023 season, played at Wilton today (April 17) then will be back in action at Bridgeport Central on April 21. The Cardinals will host Staples in a rematch of the championship match of the 2024 CIAC Class LL Tournament. They will also play host to New Canaan, which they defeated in the 2024 FCIAC Tournament final on April 22.
