Greenwich High boys tennis team victorious versus rival New Canaan, continues undefeated season

It was another match, another impressive win for the Greenwich High School boys varsity tennis team when it hosted New Canaan on April 22 in a rematch of the 2024 FCIAC Tournament final.

The two-time defending CIAC Class LL Tournament and FCIAC Tournament champion Cardinals earned a decisive 5-2 victory over the Rams, winning three of the four singles matches and two of the three doubles matchups.

At first singles, Greenwich senior Alex Salib lost a hard-fought match to his New Canaan opponent, 6-2, 6-4. In the No. 2 singles match, Manuel Galli Specos, also a senior, was victorious in a highly competitive match, 7-6 (8), 7-6 (2).

Sophomore Owen Kwon won his match at third singles for Greenwich, posting a 6-1, 6-1 victory. Junior Elias Orrell notched a 7-5, 6-1 win for the Cardinals against New Canaan at the No. 4 spot. In doubles action, seniors Rohan Mittal and Cole Frumin swept to a 6-1, 6-4 victory at the top spot for the Cards. Greenwich teammates Pierre August, a senior, and Will Neuenfeldt, a sophomore, were edged in three sets, 6-1, 3-6, 4-6.

Seniors Ishan Ambastha and Daniel Lee came back for a 2-6, 6-2, 6-3 win at third doubles for host Greenwich. For the season, the Cardinals sport a perfect record of 5-0, continuing their undefeated streak that dates back to the 2023 season.

On April 21, the Cardinals visited Bridgeport Central and cruised to a 7-0 win. Freshman Ciccio Lindia took his match at No. 1 singles, 6-1, 6-0. Adam McFarlane, a senior, won in straight sets at second singles, 6-2, 6-0. Zach Schwartz, a sophomore, was perfect at third singles, winning 6-0, 6-0. Sophomore Amir Fischer also posted a 6-0, 6-0 triumph at fourth singles.

Ambastha/Lee won at first doubles, 6-0, 6-0, while sophomore Jake Orbanwoski and freshman Ryan Stanton were also 6-0, 6-0 winners at No. 2. Naman Puri, a sophomore and freshman Milo Russo won their match at third doubles, 6-0, 6-0, to cap another Cardinals win.

Up next for the two-time defending conference and state champion Cardinals is a home match against one of their main rivals, Staples. Greenwich hosts Staples on April 24 at 4 p.m.
