
A 3-0 week ran the Greenwich High School girls tennis team’s record to a perfect 9-0.
After topping Trumbull to start the week, the Cardinals swept their way to 7-0 victories over FCIAC foes Darien and Danbury. On April 29, the Cardinals visited conference rival Darien and promptly posted a 7-0 win. Junior Shining Sun was victorious at No. 1 single for the Cards, defeating Julia Glowana, 6-3, 6-3.
Second singles saw Caitlin Mahoney earn an impressive 6-0, 6-0 win over Darien’s Andrea Coppe. At No. 2 singles GHS senior Izzy Everett was also off the court quickly, notching a 6-0, 6-0 win against Luli Escajadillo.
Avery Li also had the same success at fourth singles for the Cardinals, winning her match versus her Darien opponent, 6-0, 6-0. Greenwich’s doubles teams also won in straight sets. The experienced No. 1 duo of senior Yume Inagawa and Cameron Sowter were sensational in registering a 6-4, 6-1 win for GHS against Sara Droogan/Lucy Best.

At second doubles, senior Emmy Pecorin and junior Maddy Wilber continued their standout season for the Cardinals, topping Sydney Johnson/Ava Gupta 6-0, 6-1. In the No. 3 doubles match, Bella Barban and Olivia Popp teamed up for Greenwich and won their match, 6-1, 6-0.
Greenwich then hosted Danbury Thursday (May 1) and coasted to a 7-0 triumph. Sun won a tough match against Danbury’s Sydney Radachowsky, 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 at No. 1 singles. Mahoney was a 6-1, 6-1 winner versus Emilia Schweitzer at No. 2 and Everett took a 6-0, 6-2 decision against Danbury’s Stephany Reyes at No. 3.
In the No. 4 singles match, Elin Ever won for GHS, 6-0, 6-2. In doubles play, Inagawa teamed up with Quinn Campinell and the duo were victorious against Danbury, 6-0, 6-0. Pecorin/Wilber won another match at second doubles, 6-0, 6-0 and Barban/Popp were victorious again at the No. 3 spot, 6-0, 6-0.
Greenwich visits Stamford on Monday (May 5), then hosts Ridgefield (May 6) and Norwalk (May 8), as the team continues its quest for an undefeated regular season.
