
Greenwich Academy’s tennis team followed an undefeated regular season, which included winning the FAA regular season title, by adding its second championship of the season when it competed in the FAA Tennis Tournament.
Receiving outstanding play from all of their athletes, the Gators won the 2025 FAA Tournament championship, displaying their depth and skill. Rival Hopkins School, which finished in second place behind GA in the regular season, placed second in the FAA Tournament, which was held at Greens Farms Academy on May 10 and Hopkins School on May 12.
Senior Ella Burgess and junior Ella Loehnis, who have excelled at No. 1 doubles for Greenwich Academy all season, won the FAA doubles championship. Loehnis and Burgess defeated a doubles team from Hopkins to capture the FAA doubles title.
Shields McClure turned in a strong performance in the singles draw for GA. McClure advanced to the semifinal-round of the FAA Tournament’s No. 3/3 singles draw, where she lost to a Hopkins player. McClure had several wins beforehand to make it to the semifinals.
Lily Bragg, a freshman, earned a berth in the No. 1/2 singles semifinal draw in the league tournament with impressive victorious in the previous rounds. She lost to a Hopkins athlete in the semifinals. Bragg has been sensational at first singles for the Gators this spring.
Mia Jones, a junior and eighth grader Anna Sieg also represented GA in the semifinals. Jones/Sieg, who have played at the No. 2 spot for Greenwich Academy this season, lost to Hopkins’ No. 1 doubles team in the semifinals. Also for Greenwich Academy, sophomores Gioia Brown and Maggie Hertzmark advanced to the quarterfinal-round of the doubles bracket.
