Greenwich paid tribute to its seniors during the meet and following the meet the Cardinals held a special Senior Day ceremony. Heller mentioned how significant the seniors on the squad are to the team’s success.

“They’re great, when they started in 2022, I was a little nervous coming into the season, because we lost a lot of people through graduation and people not returning to the team,” he said. “Then we got this class and we struggled a little bit that year, but they learned so much about the team culture and started working together. When they came back in 10th grade, they were phenomenal and they’ve been the heartbeat of the team all four years, so they’re pretty great.”

Victoria Bruno, Natalia Carrasco Velazquez, Olivia DeVito, Melissa Geiger, Isabel Guzman, Kristen Jacks, Lily Norton, Ainsley Sahrbeck and Wesley Wales are Greenwich’s seniors. DeVito, Geiger, Guzman, Sahrbeck and Wales are the Cards’ captains.

On Oct. 15th, Greenwich experienced its most competitive meet of the season, pulling out a 96-89 win over Ridgefield, the defending FCIAC and CIAC State Open champion.

“It was a lot of fun, we knew it was going to be a tight meet,” Heller said of the Ridgefield meet. “They hadn’t been in too many close meets yet, so I didn’t know what to expect. I just know they have a dominant freshman class, so I thought we would be pretty closely matched.”

“They came out and they won the first race, the second race, the third race,” Heller said of the Ridgefield meet. “The tide changed a little bit when we won the 50 free – Kensington Worden – so that was a big momentum boost for us. We picked up six points in diving the night before, so we came out of diving down three and then we just kept battling. Melissa Geiger had a huge win in the 100 butterfly, Julia Kozma had a huge finish in the 100 butterfly as well. Then we had first and second in the 100 free. Once that happened, the tide shifted, we had the momentum, we took the lead.”

Greenwich closes out its 2025 regular season with a road meet against FCIAC rival Darien on Oct. 22 at 3 p.m.
