Greenwich High’s varsity boys soccer team advances to Class LL Tournament final with victory over South Windsor

Next stop for Greenwich High School’s varsity boys soccer team, Trinity Health Stadium in Hartford.

That’s where the Cardinals will play their CIAC Class LL final against longtime rival Staples High School.

Second-seeded Greenwich will face fourth-seeded Staples in the championship game of the CIAC Class LL Boys Soccer Tournament on Nov. 16th at Trinity Health Stadium in Hartford. The Cardinals (20-1) advanced to the Class LL finals by defeating sixth-seeded South Windsor High School, 4-1, in the tournament’s semifinal-round on Nov. 11th at Municipal Stadium in Waterbury.

Senior Alexander Amato scored two goals, while sophomore Joseph Carroll and junior Ebrima Touray registered one goal apiece to lead the Cardinals to victory over South Windsor.

Amato scored the game’s first goal 8:58 into the first half, giving Greenwich a 1-0 lead. The second goal of the game was also scored by Amato, this time off an assist from senior Manuel Bonilla, putting the Cardinals ahead of South Windsor, 2-0.

Carroll scored in the 47th minute and Touray tallied at the 59:20 mark to seal the Cardinals’ scoring.

Greenwich’s upcoming Class LL Tournament final against Staples marks the third time it will play the Wreckers this season. The Cardinals came back to win the regular season matchup, 4-3, then were edged by the Wreckers in the championship game of the FCIAC Tournament, 3-2.
