Greenwich High boys basketball team loses season-opener to West Haven, defeats Wright Tech on the road

Greenwich High School’s varsity basketball team began its 2025-2026 season with a home game against non-conference opponent West Haven High School and a road matchup versus JM Wright Technical School in Stamford and the Cardinals split the two games, losing to West Haven, then defeating Wright Tech.

The Cardinals (1-1) were defeated by West Haven, 70-48 and received a team-high 25 points from senior guard/forward Sandro Scott. Scott scored 13 points in the first half and finished the game with two 3-pointers.

He scored 13 out of Greenwich’s 16 first-half points. Junior Oliver Frisoli scored eight points, including two 3-pointers for the Cardinals, who received six points from senior center Michael Golden.

Jayden Zych, a senior had four points, while senior Leo Omelich made a 3-point shot for three points for Greenwich. In a one-sided win against JM Wright Technical School in Stamford on Dec. 22, Greenwich dominated throughout and received points from numerous athletes. Scott threw down a pair of dunks in the Cardinals’ first victory of the season.

Greenwich begins conference competition on Jan. 6 when it visits Fairfield Ludlowe for a 7 p.m. game. The Cardinals will visit St. Joseph on Jan. 9 at 7 p.m.

They will return home on Jan. 13th when they will host FCIAC foe Wilton High School. The Cards will then host conference opponent Bridgeport Central on Jan. 16th.

Beginning his first season as Greenwich’s head coach is Alexander Sirena.
