Greenwich High School’s varsity girls ice hockey team is definitely heading into its game against Fairfield Ludlowe-Warde co-op on tomorrow (Jan. 29th) with plenty of momentum.
The Cardinals sport a strong record of 8-5-1 and are riding a four-game winning streak going into their matchup against Fairfield co-op, their latest win coming against Simsbury on Jan. 24th.
Greenwich earned its eighth victory of the season with a decisive 5-1 triumph against Simsbury at Dorothy Hamill Skating Rink. Sophomore forward Lexi Lisjak had one goal and one assist, while junior forward Mady Jones registered two assists for the Cardinals in their home win versus Simsbury. Sophomore defender Hailey Dreher notched one goal and one assist as well in the winning effort

Lisjak scored Greenwich’s first goal against Simsbury, tallying off a pass from junior Mady Jones with 4:06 remaining in the opening period, giving the Cardinals a 1-0 lead. Dreher scored off a Jones assist with 6:09 to go in the second period, putting GHS on top, 2-0.
After a Simsbury goal at the 3:38 mark of the second period, Greenwich regained the momentum and controlled the third period.
Junior forward Eleanor Fine scored off an assist from Dreher with 11:13 left in the third period, putting the Cards in front, 3-1. Lisjak set freshman forward Kiki Worden up for a goal with 7:14 to go in the final period, making it 4-1.
Sophomore forward Miren Woolven sealed the win with a goal for Greenwich at the 4:45 mark of the third period.

Greenwich’s other victories during its four-game winning streak came against West Haven, Ridgefield and Simsbury again. The Cardinals’ game vs. Fairfield co-op is scheduled to begin at 8 p.m. tomorrow (Jan. 29).
